We didn't start asa sports brand.WE STARTED AS A BELIEF WITH A MISSION.
We're in the business of what sport does to people. What it does to a 15-year-old who was failing every class until he/she found a surfboard. What it does to a kid in the Leeds care system who didn't know he was good at anything until a skatepark proved him wrong. What it does to a 28-year-old who'd been scrolling through other people's lives until someone dragged him to a trail and he remembered he had a body.
Sport changes lives. Nobody should be locked out of those changes by where they're from or what they can afford.
What we stand for.
Three beliefs. One promise. An open door. Everything else flows from here.
Our Three Beliefs
Our Three Beliefs
Everything we build flows from three non-negotiable beliefs about sport, belonging, and talent.
- Sport changes lives.
- Belonging belongs to everyone.
- Talent deserves to be seen.
Our Promise
Our Promise
A higher purpose only matters if it shapes behaviour. These are the commitments we make in public, permanently.
- We will never sell your attention.
- We will never keep you scrolling.
- We will always put mission before margin.

A Place for You

A generation is disappearing.
Not dramatically. Quietly. Into bedrooms. Into feeds. Into the passive consumption of other people's adventures instead of having their own. The data isn't ambiguous and the consequences aren't theoretical. It's happening right now, to the generation we built HORNGRY for.
Social platforms know they're causing harm, their own internal research says so. They keep going because engagement pays. And the standard response to a generation losing itself in screens has been more apps, more content, more engagement. More of what caused the problem.
We're a different kind of response. We use tech to get you off tech and into the world. That's not a paradox. It's the whole point.

Action sports aren't a cure. They are one of the few proven, scalable tools we've got for what's actually happening. Getting a young person off a screen and onto a board, into the waves, or out on a trail doesn't just improve their sport. It changes the rest of their life. We exist to make that happen everywhere.

Where This Comes From
HORNGRY wasn't built by someone who spotted a business opportunity. It was built by someone who lived the problem.
Brian Smithies grew up mainly in the UK council care and foster system with, No money. No connections. No postcode that opened any doors. What he had was a skateboard and a park that didn't ask any questions. That park saved him. Not as a figure of speech, literally. The sport gave him a daily purpose. The community gave him an identity. The culture gave him somewhere to belong before the world had decided he was worth belonging to.
Then he watched hundreds of kids with the same talent and worse odds disappear. Not because they weren't good enough. Because nothing existed to catch them. No platform that could see them. No community that would embrace them. No door that was open.
That frustration turned into a conviction. The conviction turned into HORNGRY.
"We built the home the culture deserved, and the opportunities we never had."
EVERYTHING WE DO FLOWS FROM THESE.
Every feature. Every event. Every piece of gear. Every decision about how we operate and what we refuse to do. All of it comes from three specific beliefs.
01
1. SPORT CHANGES LIVES.
Not as a slogan, literally. The research is unambiguous: regular activity cuts depression and anxiety, builds resilience through repeated failure, creates belonging through shared challenge, and gives young people a relationship with their own bodies no screen can match.
Action sports work harder than most because falling is built in. You don't skate without falling. You don't surf without wiping out. The sport teaches you, at a cellular level, that you can fail and get back up. That lesson goes everywhere with you.
02
2. BELONGING BELONGS TO EVERYONE.
Action sports have always had an unwritten rule. The park doesn't ask where you came from. The wave doesn't check your bank balance. The trail doesn't grade your postcode. Show up and ride, you're in.
The industry that grew up around it broke that rule. Sponsorships went to the already-known. Coverage went to the already-connected. Opportunity went to the already-resourced. The culture was inclusive. The infrastructure wasn't. We exist to fix the infrastructure.
No gear requirement. No follower count. No postcode filter. Show up, you're in. That's not a marketing line. It's how we make decisions.
03
3. TALENT DESERVES TO BE SEEN.
The most talented riders in action sports are not the ones with the biggest followings. They're in car parks in Leeds, on breaks in Lagos, on trails outside Lima, on waves in Perth. They ride every day, with everything they've got, for the love of it. The industry has decided they don't exist.
We were built on one frustration: that talent has been made invisible by a system that rewards who you know over what you can do. Our platform, our events, and our content all do one job, getting that talent in front of the community, the industry, and the world it deserves.
Recognition on merit isn't an aspiration. It's the foundation.
Start with why.
Most businesses lead with what they sell. We lead with what we believe. Everything else, how we operate, and what we actually make, flows from the belief. That's the order that matters.
WHY
WE KNOW SPORT AT ANY LEVEL CAN, AND DOES CHANGE LIVES, AND THAT NOBODY SHOULD BE EXCLUDED FROM THOSE CHANGES BY WHERE THEY COME FROM OR WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD.
HOW
No gatekeepers. No advertising model. Technology that gets you offline. Community that's yours without a price tag. Events open to everyone who shows up.
WHAT
A global community App / platform. A sustainable apparel brand. A live events business. Three pillars, one flywheel, all pointed at the WHY.
Inspired by Simon Sinek's Golden Circle, "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it."
What we will never do. What we always will.
A Higher Purpose is only meaningful if it shapes behaviour. These are the specific commitments that flow from ours, stated publicly and permanently, so anyone can hold us to them.
We Will Never
- ✗
Sell your attention
We will never build a business model that requires packaging you for advertisers. Your attention is yours.
- ✗
Keep you scrolling
We will never design features intended to maximise time on platform over time in sport. If more time on HORNGRY means less time riding, we have failed.
- ✗
Monetise your culture
We will never package the culture you create for our brand benefit without your knowledge and consent.
- ✗
Gatekeep belonging
We will never put a price on belonging. No gear requirement. No follower count. No background check.
- ✗
Build for the elite
We will never direct our resources, our coverage, or our community infrastructure toward those who already have it.
- ✗
Profit from insecurity
We will never manufacture aspiration designed to make you feel inadequate in order to sell you something.
We Always Will
- ✓
Build for the rider
Every decision we make is tested against one question: does this serve the rider or the brand? When those conflict, the rider wins.
- ✓
Measure what matters
Sessions had. Riders connected. Skills progressed. Spots discovered. These are our metrics, not clicks, not conversion rates.
- ✓
Keep the door open
For everyone who shows up. Regardless of skill level, background, geography, income, or follower count.
- ✓
Let the community own the culture
The culture belongs to those who built it. We are the infrastructure. The community is the point.
- ✓
Put mission before margin
Commercial success is what allows the mission to scale. The mission is why the commercial success matters.
- ✓
Be accountable to you
These commitments are public and permanent. If we break them, call us out. That accountability is intentional.
There is a place for you here.
The mission works because it draws people who share the belief, riders, investors, philanthropists, corporate partners, journalists, and community builders. If you found yourself nodding while reading this page, this is for you.
For Riders & Community
You showed up anyway.
If you ride because you need to, not because you're paid to, not because you're chasing followers, but because something in you requires it, you are exactly who HORNGRY was built for. The community is yours. No invitation needed.

Mission and margin aligned.
HORNGRY is one of the rare businesses where the commercial model and the social mission are the same thing. Every rider we bring into the community is revenue and a young person who is off a screen and into life. If that alignment matters to you, talk to us.

This isn't a brand. It's a belief that grew into something you can actually show up to. The door we built is open, for the kid in the car park who nobody's watching yet, for the rider who gave everything and got nothing back, for the community seeker who just needs to find their people. Show up. You're already in.
